It was Kendel.
“Yes “I answered the phone within the first ring
“No” he answered.
“Don’t play boy what do you want?” I laughed
“What are you doing?”
“Breathing air, how about you?” I say trying to hide the fact that I had a lot on my mind. Kendel and I were always very quick witted with each other.
“Living in my skin. What are you doing up so early?” I didn’t know why he would ask that.
“Answering your call.” I said still keeping up with the witty remarks.
“Can I ask you a question?”
“You just did.”I say trying to get under his nerves.
“Why do you always wear your hair in a pony tail?”He asks out of nowhere.
“Because I like it that way.”I say confused.
“I like it better down.”
While talking to him I began loosening up my pony tail and taking my hair down. I took out my mirror and used it to look at myself.
“Put the mirror away Daina. Just take my word for it.”
“Why should” I stopped in the middle of my sentence struck with confusion. “……how did you know……Where are you?”
“Turn to your right.”
And there he was looking stupid in those blue jogging shorts he has had now over the last two years.
“Stalker.”I say while looking at him.
“Fate.”He says and closes his flip phone. He begins to run up to me.
When he gets closer he stops and looks at the lake.
“Is this what you do D….. Watch water?”
“Maybe it relaxes me.”
He sat down by me and took out a lighter and a cigarette. He looked at the ocean and puts his arm over my shoulder.
“What’s wrong?”He asks without looking at me.
“Stressed.”I say
“Well yeah I know that much, what is it that’s stressing you.”
I shrugged my shoulders.
He offers me his cigarette; of course I take it because I needed it. Me and him both agreed that one day we would stop, we also agreed that it wouldn’t be anytime soon.
“O.k. well let’s just say I’m leaving.” I stared straight because I didn’t know if I could handle his reaction or looking at his facial expressions.
